Spring Cleaning with Rebag | Referral code
Its that time of year when everyone says they’re doing some “spring cleaning.” For some people that means cleaning their house, for others it means getting rid of old furniture and kids toys. For me, spring cleaning is the time to clean out my closet. As you can probably imagine, I’m a shopaholic. I like to stay trendy but add my own style to make each outfit my own. Keeping up with trends can be expensive and sometimes we look back at things and say, “I’m never wearing that again.” I want to share some of my tips on how to clean out your closet and I have a referral code from Rebag to share with you to help you make money off of some of the good quality items you want to give away.
*Referral link/code will be at the bottom of this blog.*
1. Organize by category
It is a whole lot easier to find things in your closet when each type of garment has its own section. My closets have a dress section, a blouse section, a t-shirt section, a jeans section, a dress pants section, a skirt section and a jacket/cardigan/coat section. Then of course I have a place to store by bags and I have big storage baskets for my belts, clutches, and hats. Keeping each category of clothing/accessories together helps when finding items or putting outfits together.
2. Sort by color or sleeve length
Every year I seem to go back and forth between these two forms of organizing your closet. Right now my closet is organized by sleeve length, so it is easy to locate the spaghetti strap dresses and tanks that were forgotten about previously when hidden between long sleeve clothes. However, I find that I still group the clothes by color even when I am organizing my clothes by sleeve length. If you have a lot of colors in your wardrobe, it may be best to organize your clothes by color. Perhaps hanging the items by sleeve length within each group of color will make locating items easier.
3. Storage is everything
I understand that not everyone has a big closet that can fit all of their clothes, and not everyone has clothes that can be worn all year long. This being said, storing the items you aren't wearing or don't need hanging in your closet right now can help you clean up too. Even though you aren't getting rid of these items, your closet will look a lot neater if you are able to declutter. Take out those heavy duty jackets, boots, wool and heavy sweaters and put them in a box. Keep them in storage until its cooler out again and we can store away our crop tops and shorts. You can also use storage to put away the clothes you aren't wearing but could potentially wear in the future, but personally, I would suggest selling them or giving them away.
4. Sell or donate
I know we get so attached to our clothes sometimes, but being able to get rid of the clothes that just aren't your style anymore can help declutter your closet and make your closet seem more appealing. When you know everything in your closet is something you would actually wear and love, it makes getting dressed in the mornings super easy. When you clean out your closet, remember that you do not have to keep everything. Get rid of the items you don't love, and sell them online or donate them. I like to encourage people to donate some of the quality clothes they don't want anymore too, not just the clothes that should be thrown away. Search charities near you to see where you can donate.
If you have bags you don't use anymore, Rebag is a company that actually sells your bags for you. Perhaps you have a Michael Kors, Kate Spade or Coach bag you don't wear anymore, but you know it is in great condition. You can take some pictures of the item, submit it to Rebag, they'll give you a quote, let you ship the item to them for free and then pay you within 2-3 business days. As someone who normally sells things on Poshmark (that almost seem to never sell), it is amazing to know that there are companies that just pay you upfront for the item and sell it on your behalf.
