 1. Fall Colors/Keeping it Simple

When you see those Thanksgiving dinner commercials on television, or interrupting your YouTube binge sessions, you’ll notice that there are lots of burnt oranges, browns, burgundies, navy blues and olive greens that they use to portray the holiday. These colors represent fall and they instantly remind you of hayrides, apple cider, turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing and more. PANTONE put together a pallet of colors that were heavily represented in the 2017 fall fashion shows at New York Fashion Week.

These colors are what gave me inspiration for this blog, and I hope that you are inspired too! If any of these colors are in your wardrobe I know you can put something together. Wearing one of these colors on top (a blouse, collared button down, or simple solid colored shirt) and pairing it with jeans, dress pants, or leggings will be festive and simple! This is your best bet if you aren’t traveling somewhere cold this year.

2. The Slouchy Fall Sweater

A nice sweater and boots never go out of style. This is something that both men and women can relate to. Depending on what the weather will be like, sweaters and boots are usually a good “go-to” outfit. So ladies, for you this could mean a regular fitted sweater, a cropped sweater with high waisted jeans, a sweater with a skirt, a sweater dress with booties or an oversized sweater with over the knee boots. Keeping fall colors in mind, there are lots of ways to style a sweater.

My personal favorite women’s sweater style is what I call the “slouchy sweater.” These can be cropped or oversized. There’s something so comfy and stylish about a slouchy sweater with leggings, or good pair of jeans.

 3. Layering/Details

For the men reading this blog, I’ve learned that layering can make a man look really stylish. The more fall colors you throw together the more festive your outfit becomes. I think wearing a collared shirt underneath your fall sweater really makes a statement. And if you don’t wear layers too well, wear a sweater with an elbow patch or wear a pattern like a checkered or plaid shirt to bring your outfit to life.

Layers really look great on men! Now, I’m not suggesting you all wear blazers, but if you want to throw one on, you can wear a more casual button down or sweater underneath to make it look more casual. These browns in the pictures above are used to oh so tastefully show that fall flavor you want in your outfit for Thanksgiving.

BUT, here’s the “no-no” in my opinion. I’m not a fan of the t-shirt and unbuttoned button down look. We think you guys look cute when you wear one or the other, not both. Either button it up or go with the t-shirt.

4. Festivity, but not too much

I know it may not go with everyone’s style, but I think it’s cute to add something festive to your outfit. This is the day wear you can wear quirky leaf or pumpkin earrings or turkey socks and it’s totally okay, as long as it’s not the center of attention on your outfit. Don’t be afraid to be a little festive!

5. Keep it comfy!

Men and women, remember this is essentially the national day of food so wear jeans that aren’t too snug, a belt that has a few more holes for adjusting, leggings, and nothing too form fitting. EAT AND ENJOY!!

Happy Thanksgiving From Mandy Grey Lane!!
