A Look at Fashion in 2017
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Ladies, let's talk fashion.
I hope everyone had a safe weekend and brought in the New Year with positive vibes! My weekend was spent working and spending some time with family. I made it home just in time to get some chips and guac, watch the highlights of Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin (since we are on central time now) and countdown to the New Year with the family! It was all I needed to start my year off right.
At the beginning of each year, I like to take a look at the direction that fashion is going. Last year we had a lot of patterns, lace, blush pink, lace-up tops, off the shoulder, uneven hem jeans and velvet to name a few. As usual, some of those trends will trickle into this year with a few adjustments to keep them in line with the new trends on the block.
I've been a faithful subscriber to a few Conde Nast magazines over the years. Magazines, fashion runway apps and Youtubers keep me up to date with fashion trends. In this blog I'm going to be talking about trends I found in my allure and Glamour January 2017 magazines.
1. BOLD and Bright Colors
Throughout both magazines I found that there were a lot of BOLD colors and BOLD patterns. They stood out to me because last year was all about wearing nudes, black, dusty pink and little pops of color here and there. But this year has an 80s brightness feel to it which is very playful. I saw a lot of red, light blue, hot pink, orange, yellow and a dark indigo purple. It will be interesting to see who wears these trends and how clothing brands adopt and implement them.
2. Patterns, patterns, and more patterns
Last year, trends began to shift from solids and stripes to lots and lots of patterns. Every year patterns are implemented somehow, but this year there are no limits! Be bold and try mixing some of your favorite patterns and you'd be surprised how well some of them work together. Don't go too crazy though! Remember lots of magazines artistically exaggerate fashion trends.
3. Silks and Pajamas
This trend is not so new. Silk robe inspired wrap dresses have been around for a couple years and seen on celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, and Rihanna to name a few.
But last year the trend shifted to a more spaghetti strap silk slipdress style, worn alone to be dressy or worn over a t-shirt to be more casual. This silk trend is featured in both magazines for a variety of clothing pieces, so I would definitely expect to see more silk in 2017.
4. Two-toned Denim
Lately designers have been doing a lot with denim. Two or three years ago it was all about denim on denim, last year was all about bringing flare back, introducing the uneven hem, and bringing back denim patches. This year it's about two-toned denim: denim garments with more than one color of denim. My taste is very specific when it comes to denim, so there are very few two-toned denim pieces that I could see myself wearing. However, I still like the trend a lot!
5. Belt buckles
I've noticed lately that belt buckles have been used in fashion not just on belts, but on shoes and hair! Shoes have implemented the belt buckle-look as ankle straps and an accessory to top pointed heels with, and hair stylists have made them into hair bands. I like trends like this that make the details we usually never paid much attention to, into something that draws your eye immediately.
To conclude...
All of these trends really popped out to me in these two magazines. I hope you all learned something new and got inspired! These trends are simply meant to inspire our wardrobes and not to dictate what we wear. So take these and make them your own! I'll have plenty more fashion blogs. I'm also subscribed to VOGUE on my iPad, but I just wanted to give you a sneak peak of everything. Download the app and subscribe to a Conde Nast magazine to see more! *This is not sponsored.*
